Brake modules for metro cars in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

Currently, DAKO-CZ company is getting ready for supplies of brake systems for metro vehicles in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia). Fast growing capital city of Riyadh has more than 5 million inhabitants and modernization of transport infrastructure has been inevitable. The world's largest metro project will be divided into 6 lines of a total length of 175 km. During the rush hour trains will be passing in 90 second intervals and the system should be able to handle 21 000 passengers per hour. Siemens company will supply 74 Inspiro metro trains for 2 lines of Riyadh metro, which will be equipped with DAKO brakes. Metro trains have a maximum speed of 90 km/h and the design had to be adapted to specific climate conditions in this region, which include extreme heat and sand storms. The brakes are fitted with special seals and filters to restrict sand penetration, which was confirmed by tests of all brake components and the system as a whole in a special sand chamber in Berlin. In addition to these special tests the brakes underwent other standard tests, such as climate test, vibration test, salt chamber test, etc. This significant order for brake modules and other brake components for 45 four vehicle units and 29 two vehicle units will start in April 2015 when the first four brake units will be delivered. Riyadh metro project will go on until September 2017.
